Off-Season Workouts
As a professional athlete, it is extremely important to always be improving your skills and abilities. The off-season is the ideal time to expand your game, clean up bad habits, and refocus your goals.
Basketball is your job at this time in your life, and you need to train hard for 6 to 8 hours per day. The best players are constantly in the gym working on their game, getting stronger, and eating healthy. A good goal is to make sure to get in 500 to 600 made baskets per day. These shots should be with the same effort and focus you would have in a crucial game. Make sure the shots you are taking are the same shots you'd be taking in a real game, and be focused on proper form and going at full speed. You will also want to work on cardio, footwork, and agility drills and make sure to get plenty of water and a healthy meal plan together.
There are many quality trainers throughout the country, but one of the trainers who has impressed me the most is Joe Abunassar in Las Vegas. Joe and his staff train many of the top NBA and college players and they have an excellent reputation.
Here is a sample schedule of one of their summer workout schedules:
| 8:30am - 11:00am | Skill Training & Scoring Technique Series |
| 11:00am - 12:00am | Lunch & Recovery |
| 12:00pm - 1:15pm | Performance Training |
| 1:15pm -2:00pm | Individual Breakdown & Position Work |
| 2:00pm - 4:00pm | Skill Training & Tactical Development |
As you can see, it's a full day with a variety of focused activities.
Your off-season workouts will directly affect your in-season performance. If you would like more information or need help finding a trainer in your area, we are available to help you find a qualified trainer near you.
